Therapists working in geriatrics are challenged when faced with those with varying levels of cognitive loss. How can we treat them successfully? How do we set appropriate goals? How do we understand the world through the eyes of someone with dementia? How do we facilitate the best quality of life at every stage of the disease? This course is based on the Cognitive Disabilities Model developed by Claudia Allen.
This is an introductory course designed to give therapists a framework to understand the abilities that a person with dementia retains at each stage. In addition, it will help give each participant tools to be able to be more successful in understanding and treating the individual with dementia, allowing them to develop appropriate treatment goals, and alter the treatment approach to maximize successful outcomes.
